el pacifico

Then the tide rolls out

To reveal the cragged stones

Like the rough and worn skin

Of the great mother herself

Like the crocodile from when

The world was born

You can’t resist feeling

The cool smooth stones

Firm and sweet beneath your feet

Like everything else you always

Knew to be true before you learned

To grip the world so tightly

Before you began to shut yourself

Off from receiving all the things

That ever brought you joy

Why can’t we run naked?

Like children laughing heart first

Into the surf allowing the waves

All pleasure and sweet relief

Tell me why do we have to wait

For tears to make us feel so alive?
